PURPOSE: To offer members of your organization the opportunity to create community spirit, develop more effective communication skills and enhance conflict resolution strategies. To demonstrate via hands on experience the use of music-based activities to help students meet learning outcomes in the classroom. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: UNITY WITH A BEAT! uses the inherent community building benefits of playing music together combined with other written and verbal exercises. Connections are made between being in tune rhythmically and how this transfers to day-to-day work situations in the school setting. As a result, participants gain a greater insight into their potential and the positive contributions they can make in an organization. Using his music therapy and group facilitation background, Barry Bernstein has created a program that utilizes our natural rhythmic abilities by accessing language and movement to create a holistic experience that is accessible to everyone regardless of previous musical training. While using the experiences for team spirit building, Barry demonstrates how to use music and rhythm experiences to address students learning outcomes in the class. These include math, science and social studies. Different learning styles are addressed during the presentation. The program runs 2 - 2 1/2 hours and is most effective for 50 - 75 participants. All levels of school staff are encouraged to attend. TOP Your ability to connect other aspects of education gives your approach and your work meaning, especially for the students who will ultimately benefit. What really made the Inservice effective was the way in which you worked with staff and helped them to quickly feel comfortable with you and with applying music to their work.Bruce Passman, Ph.D. - Director, Department of Special Education State of Kansas |
